How Much Is My Old Jeep Car Worth?

Jeep invented the sport utility vehicle, and it has continued to see strong sales, even as almost every other carmaker has followed suit with competing SUVs. The brand, a division of Chrysler (now owned by Fiat), makes everything from rugged off-road vehicles like the Wrangler to luxury SUVs like the Grand Cherokee Limited.

The first Jeep was produced in 1941 as a military vehicle, and civilian models followed four years later. Jeeps were used prevalently in World War II, and the vehicles continued to be popular for military applications for several decades. Later on, they were largely replaced by the larger and more rugged Hummer.

Some Jeeps, particularly old war vehicles, are considered valuable classics. And many people hang on to old civilian models as sport, leisure or off-road vehicles. But if your old Jeep has outlived its useful life - perhaps it no longer runs, it is missing parts or the body is rusted out - it might be time to junk it.

How Do I Know If I Should Junk My Jeep?

Jeeps are robust vehicles, but they’re notorious for certain mechanical problems, particularly beyond the 200,000-mile mark. Among the most common are engine, transmission, radiator and electrical problems. These are expensive problems to fix, and they’re not worth fixing in many older vehicles.

As a general rule, the car should be junked if the cost of repairs is higher than the resale value of the vehicle. In that case, the vehicle will most like be difficult, if not impossible, to sell on the private market or to a dealer. In most cases, if the body is rusted out and/or the vehicle does not run, it’s a fit for the junkyard.

Which Jeep Models Do You Buy?

We buy a variety of Jeep models, including Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Comanche, Jeep trucks, Liberty, Scrambler, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer and Wrangler. We don’t place hard and fast restrictions on the age of the vehicle, but most of the vehicles we buy were manufactured from the early 1980s through the late 1990s. When in doubt, always fill out our online form or contact us to check eligibility.

Some of the prices we have recently paid for Jeep vehicles include:

  • 1995 Grand Cherokee SE (very high mileage) - $250
  • 1985 Grand Wagoneer - $295
  • 2005 Liberty - $1,200
  • 1989 Wrangler Sahara - $250
  • 1993 Cherokee Sport - $220

Keep in mind that price is determined by a number of factors, including the age of the vehicle, condition, mileage and your location. When you fill out our online quote request, we’ll ask for your zip code and some basic information about the condition of the vehicle. The questions take less than a minute to complete, and no personal information is required unless you decide to accept the offer. If you do, we’ll schedule a pick up - usually within 24 hours - and pay cash on the spot.
